AN ENGLISH LAD'S CONNECTION TO BOXTED

Ron Jervis lived on Ipswich Road, right next to the airfield. From age 16, he always wanted to learn to fly. At age 18, Ron got his pilot’s license. In the late 1950's Ron, the late Eric Richards and Tony Sutton founded the Colchester Gliding Club on Boxted Airfield. 

Ron bought 15 Acres of the airfield in 1961, for a purchase price of £5,000 per 5 Acre sites (3) on behalf of the Seed Merchants Frank Pertwee and Sons!  He was a director of one of their companies that built three 15,000 bird units for egg production on the sites, and employed about 15 local ladies to collect eggs!
